How it began : Salfid Rescue Inc. was started in cooperation with Salfid Kennels' owner, Debra Curley. In 2005, Debra was providing transport for rescues and in one of her transports there were too many puppies for one rescue to take. Debra recalls stating, "I'll take them!" (noting that she had "room") As time went on she, and a few others who had joined the mission, started Salfid Rescue Inc., which received 501C3 (non-profit) status in November of 2008. Salfid is a privately run rescue which is not funded by the state or city and is solely run on donations from the community.
Since then, Salfid Rescue's volunteers have worked together, saving dogs and puppies from overpopulated shelters. Many of our dogs and puppies come from Friends of Campbell County Animal Control, Franklin County Humane Society, and the Humane Society of Amherst County; all located in Virginia. We have also saved dogs from shelters in Philadelphia, Alabama, West Virginia, and many more. We have been working with these shelters for years and have established a wonderful relationship with them. We approximately save 200-300 dogs each year from these shelters. We are committed to saving all dogs therefore we do not discriminate against breed or age of the dogs we take in.
Once we have transferred the dogs and puppies to our facility, we have them seen by our Veterinary facility for needed wellness exams, vaccinations, preventative care, alterations for dogs over 6 months old, and much more. From there our volunteers and kennel staff evaluate any social needs, bond with them, and give them love until their forever family comes along!
